Buying Used Cars

Have you decided to buy a used car? If yes, then you must plan the process of choosing the ideal used car for you carefully. Car sales expert believe that if you know how to ask questions, you have higher chance of getting a lucrative deal on used cars. This article is meant for people who have decided to buy used cars but, are not aware of the questions they should ask before finalizing the deal. Below we have presented the most important questions you should ask a car dealer while purchasing used cars:

Question 1: When was the car bought and from where?

You should ensure that the used car you are going to purchase is bought from a trustworthy dealer or any other reliable source. Once you know the source of the car, you must ensure that it accompanies all legal documents related to its ownership. This is important to ensure that you are not purchasing a stolen vehicle or a vehicle obtained via other illegal procedures. On the other hand, by knowing when the car was bought, you will know how new or old the model actually is. This will help you decide whether or not the car is a perfect choice for you.

Question 2: What is the exact condition/status of the used car?

The things you must check before buying used cars include: the cars’ engine condition, their mileage, the status of other car parts like the wheels, brakes etc and their external and internal appearance. Redoing the interiors of your car or getting it painted may not cause big troubles for you. However, not many would like to invest in a car with depleted brakes and leaking engine. When you are purchasing used cars, you must consider the cars’ mileage as the main factor for deciding their price. According to people with years of experience in car sales, it is sensible to avoid purchasing a used car with non-functional odometer or an odometer that shows incorrect reading.

Question 3: Have you made any investment in the used car in form of additional accessories, servicing or insurance?

When you are buying a used car, you must make sure that you know the frequency at which the car has been serviced and oiled. It is extremely important for you to know how careful the car’s previous owner was about its maintenance. For confirmation, ask the dealer to show you the car’s service records. You must also ask the dealer to inform you whether or not the car has had any accident and gather information on the kind of damages the accident caused. See whether there are additional investments made on items like air conditioning system, GPS navigator, stereo etc. Such investments will automatically increase the price of the used car (when compared to used cars of the same model but without hose accessories).

Question 4: Is there any warranty accompanying the used car?

At times even used cars come with warranties. If you are lucky, you will get used cars that come with warranties of 2 months or 1000 miles.
